1955
RCA Victor purchased Elvis Presley's contract from Sun Records for $40,000, with Elvis receiving $5,000 as a signing bonus. This landmark deal launched Presley's transformation from regional sensation to international superstar.
1961
Bob Dylan began recording his self-titled debut album at Columbia Studios in New York City. The sessions, completed over two days (November 20 and 22), captured the raw folk sound that would launch his legendary career.
1963
The Beatles performed two shows at ABC Cinema in Manchester, England, during the height of Beatlemania sweeping across Britain.
1965
The Supremes hit number one with "I Hear A Symphony," marking another milestone in their remarkable string of chart-topping hits during the mid-1960s.
1966
Beatles manager Brian Epstein hosted an exclusive party at his London home to honor The Four Tops. Guests included John Lennon, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Donovan, Eric Burdon, and Georgie Fame.
1971
Isaac Hayes reached number one with "Theme From Shaft," while John Lennon's "Imagine" sat at number three. Led Zeppelin performed the first of two "Electric Magic" shows at London's Wembley Empire Pool, featuring trapeze artists and vaudeville performers alongside their legendary music.
1973
Keith Moon, drummer for The Who, collapsed onstage at San Francisco's Cow Palace after his drink was spiked with horse tranquilizer. A 19-year-old audience member named Scott Halpin volunteered from the crowd and finished the show on drums for three songs, becoming part of rock legend. Also on this date, Lynyrd Skynyrd debuted "Free Bird" during a performance at Kent State, introducing audiences to what would become their signature anthem.
1975
The Who kicked off their month-long North American tour at The Summit in Houston. After the show, drummer Keith Moon was arrested for disorderly conduct and spent the night in jail.
1976
Paul Simon hosted Saturday Night Live, where he performed "Here Comes the Sun" and "Homeward Bound" with George Harrison.
