1964 – The Who, then known as The High Numbers, audition for British record label EMI, who turn them down. Watch
1965 – The Rolling Stones release "Get Off My Cloud" in the UK. Two weeks later it reaches #1 in Great Britain, and also tops charts in America, Canada, South Africa, and Germany. Watch Live: Get Off My Cloud
1966 – The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" makes its debut on the US singles chart. The groundbreaking single, which took six months and over $16,000 to record, would reach #1 on December 10th and earn a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year. Watch: Good Vibrations Live
1969 – Led Zeppelin release "Led Zeppelin II" in the United States, featuring classics like "Whole Lotta Love," "Ramble On," "Moby Dick," and "Heartbreaker." The album hits #1 on the Billboard 200 by December 27th and sells three million copies in just six months. Watch: Whole Lotta Love
1977 – Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell," composed by Jim Steinman, continues its climb toward legendary status. Released on October 21st, the album goes on to sell approximately 40 million copies worldwide. Watch My Cousin Johnny Sing Meatloaf (Yep, that’s my cousin).
